Autobiografía lectora/Reading Autobiography

Hace muchos años, acudí a un taller sobre lectura y una de las actividades fue escribir nuestra autobiografía lectora. Fue una experiencia que me encantó pues me acordé de cosas que creía olvidadas.
Mis padres fueron y siguen siendo grandes lectores y nuestra casa siempre estuvo llena de libros. Los había en las recámaras, en la sala y en un cuarto pequeño que era la biblioteca, donde había estantes de piso a techo en dos paredes. Pasé muchas horas en la biblioteca, rodeada de montones de libros de arte, ciencia, ciencia ficción, novelas y cuentos además de revistas, comics, libros de temas esotéricos, cuentos de fantasmas (que me encantaban y asustaban al mismo tiempo) y muchos libros para niños. Una de las primeras memorias que tengo es de mi mamá leyéndome un libro de cuentos de hadas (todavía lo tengo) y, después, de mi papá me llevándome muy seguido a la Librería Británica a comprar libros. Además, la escuela donde estudié tenía (y sigue teniendo) bibliotecas maravillosas. La lista de libros que recuerdo es muy larga y me gusta acordarme de ellos. Lo hago con mucho cariño y los invito a hacerlo. Estoy segura que les va a encantar.


Many years ago, I went to a workshop about reading and one of the activities was to write our reading autobiography. It was a great experience because I remembered things I thought I had forgotten.
My parents were and continue to be great readers and our house was always full of books. There were books in the bedrooms, in the living room, and in a small room which was the library, were there were shelves from the floor to the ceiling along two walls. I spent many hours in the library, surrounded by books of art, science, science fiction, novels, and short stories as well as comics, magazines, and books of esoteric themes, ghost stories (which I loved but also scared me at the same time) and many books for kids. One of my first memories is of my mother reading to me from a book of fairy tales (which I still have) and, later, of often going with my dad to the Librería Británica to buy books. Besides, the school where I went had wonderful libraries. The list of books I remember is long and I like to think about them. I do so fondly and I invite you to do it. I’m sure you’ll enjoy it.

Año nuevo, proyectos nuevos/New Year, New Projects

Acabo de regresar de vacaciones. Estuve, con mi esposo, en Tabasco, Yucatán y Quintana Roo. Nos fuimos en coche, nos fue de maravilla y me doy cuenta que, cada vez más, estoy enamorada de mi país, su gente, colores, comida, artesanías (que es una palabra que no describe el arte producido en todo el país) y toda la riqueza cultural, tanto la centenaria así como la moderna, que hay de frontera a frontera. Regreso maravillada, otra vez, de lo que hicieron los mayas. Ojalá pueda regresar algún día a conocer más y que todos tengan la oportunidad de viajar por el país y disfrutarlo. También traigo nuevos cuentos de tradición oral, lo cual me emociona.

I just got back from vacations. My husband and I were in Tabasco, Yucatan and Quintana Roo.  We went by car, had a great time and each time I'm more aware that I fall more in love with my country, its people, colors, food, folk art (words that do not do justice to the art produced in the whole country) and all its cultural richness, be it ancient or modern, that is found from one border to the other. I came back once again amazed by what the Maya did. I hope that someday I'll be able to go back to see more and I hope that someday all of you can travel through the country and enjoy it. I also brought back new folktales, something that thrills me.

La Navidad y Jánuca están a la vuelta así como el 2012, que a tanta gente tiene con los pelos de punta gracias a todas las "profecías" que, según algunas personas, pronostican el fin del mundo. Por favor no les hagan caso: más bien pónganse a trabajar y a divertirse y, en las fiestas, celebren por todo lo bueno que nos da la vida como disfrutar de nuestras familias y amigos y tener oportunidades de reir, maravillarnos de la naturaleza, leer un buen libro, ver una magnifica película, hacer ejercicio, comer unos buenos tacos o chilaquiles y disfrutar de la vida en general lo mejor que podemos. A todos les deseo lo mejor y denles muchos abrazos a los que tienen cerca que los abrazos curan.

Christmas and Hannukah are right around the corner and so is 2012, which has so many people scared thanks to all the "profecies" that, according to some people, are saying that the world will soon come to an end. Please don't pay attention to them: better get to work and have fun and, during this holiday season, celebrate all the good things that life has given to you such as enjoying our families and friends and having the chance to laugh, marvel at what nature gives us, read a good book, watch a magnificent movie, do exercise, eat some good tacos or chilaquiles, and enjoy life in general as best as we can. I hope everyone has a great holiday season and hug those near you because hugs can heal.

The FILIJ, the best book fair for kids and adolescents, where you'll find loads of books of all prices, starts in a few days! The inauguration is on the 11th of November and, besides the sale of books, there will be presentations of new titles, books signings, shows, and storytellers. Momostro Producciones lanza en la FIL Ven a jugar conmigo-Diversión inteligente/ Come Play With Me-Brainy Fun, una colección digital, multimedia, multiplataforma, interactiva y bilingüe con cuentos para niños de tres, cuatro y cinco años de edad.  Cada uno de los tres CDs tiene seis originales cuentos en español e inglés y el cuarto CD tiene juegos para toda la familia.

Each of the three CDs has six original stories in Spanish and English and the fourth CD has games for the whole family.

Presentación del libros en la FILIJ /Book Presentations in the FILIJ

¡Estamos de manteles largos! Rubí Juárez, ilustradora, animadora y programadora, y yo estaremos en la Feria Internacional del Libro Infantil y Juvenil  (FILIJ) presentando libros. Por mi parte, presento De astutos, tragones y mordelones, con las ilustraciones llenas de humor de Juan Gedovius y publicado por Editorial Norma. El libro tiene tres cuentos muy divertidos, con varios conejos y jaguares, un zorrillo y varios personajes más, todos de nuestra rica tradición oral mexicana. La cita es el sábado 12 de noviembre a la 1 de la tarde en el espacio Café y letras. Después habrá firma de libros. Rubí presenta el libro de Alma Velasco No te preocupes, divertido cuento publicado por Editorial Porrúa, el domingo 13 de noviembre a las 5 de la tarde. Ella hizo las ilustraciones y te vas a divertir con ellas y ella. ¡Ahí nos vemos!

We're celebrating! Rubí Juárez, illustrator, animator and programmer, and I will be at the Feria Internacional del Libro Infantil y Juvenil  (FILIJ) presenting books. On my part, I'll be presenting De astutos, tragones y mordelones, with the humourous illustrations of Juan Gedovius and published by Editorial Norma. The book has three very entertaining folktales, with several rabbits and jaguars, a skunk and a cast of other characters, all from the rich traditions of Mexico. The date is Saturday, the 12th of November, at 1 pm in the area Café y letras. There will be a book signing after. Rubí presents Alma Velasco's book No te preocupes, a fun story published by Editorial Porrúa, on Sunday, the 13th of November, at 5 pm. She did the illustrations and you'll have fun with them and her. See you there!
