Les presento dos libros nuevos: Vamos a comer...¡flores! y Vamos a comer... ¡bichos! Los
dos fueron publicados por Ediciones SM de México. El de las flores fue
ilustrado por Valeria Gallo y el de los bichos por Margarita Sada. Las
fotos de los dos fueron sacadas por Ilán Rabchinskey, mi hijo. Los
libros son muy divertidos pues además de algo de información, vienen las
recetas. ¡Manos a la obra! Métete a la cocina y prepara algunas de ellas Te vas a divertir y luego te vas a
deleitar con lo que preparaste. ¡Provecho!

I'm pleased to present my two new books: Vamos a comer...¡flores! and Vamos a comer... ¡bichos!
One is about edible flowers and the other about edible insects found in
Mexico. Both were published by Ediciones SM of Mexico. The one about
the flowers was illustrated by Valeria Gallo and the one about the
insects by Margarita Sada. The photos were taken by Ilán Rabchinskey, my
son. The books are interesting because, besides the fun facts, there
are recipes. So, get moving! Get into the kitchen and prepare some of them. You'll have fun and then you'll
enjoy what you prepared.

Hoy se celebra el día internacional del libro para niños en honor a Hans Christian Anderson, el autor de cuentos muy bellos como El patito feo y La sirenita. Confieso que estos dos, así como El traje del emperador, fueron de mis favoritos cuando niña pero otros me asustaban o me hacía llorar. En esos entonces, cuando Andersen los escribió, no había concesiones debido a la edad de los niños que los escuchaban y se hablaba de cosas fuertes como la muerte y la tristeza. En La sirenita, ella acaba convertida en espuma de mar y en, El soldadito de plomo, el soldado muere. Todo esto me entristecía. Además, de pequeña, traté de leer sus cuentos y algunos me asustaron mucho cuando, por ejemplo a una bruja le cortaron la cabeza y la sangre fluyó a borbotones. Aun así, se agradecen sus cuentos pues formaron parte de mi vida. Por lo tanto, celebren en grande y dénle un abrazo a un autor o a un ilustrador de libros para niños.
Today is the celebration of the international children's books day in honor of Hans Christian Andersen, author of stories such as The Little Mermaid and The Ugly Duckling. I cofess that these two stories, as well as The Emperor's New Clothes, where some of my favorites as a child but others scared me or made me sad. In those long ago day, when Andersen penned the stories, there were no concessions and talking to children about death and violence was normal. In The Little Mermaid she ends her life as foam and, in The Tin Soldier, the soldier dies. I was saddened by this. Besides, as a child, I tried to read some of his stories and was very frightened when, for instance, a witch had her head cut off and the blood flowed. Even so, I appreciate his tales and they were a big part of my life. So, celebrate in a big way and give an author or an illustrator a big hug.
